World Ranking Masters Banner Auction

We are auctioning off a Phantom Radio Show "banner" that has been autographed by the W.R.M. (World Ranking Masters ) TV Finalist.....all four (4) of them!

This souvenir (collectors item), is: 5-feet wide and 2-feet tall.
It is 3-colors and and made from sturdy polyethylene.

It is an indoor banner and can be used as a wall hanging in your office, family room, kids room or your game room.

ALL the proceeds will go to The Foundation.

The auction is over and the Banner was won by Gary Parsons, with a final bid of $107.50.

Asbaty and Williams "Master" the field.

The 2007 World Ranking Masters concluded with Diandra Asbaty and Stuart Williams taking home top honors in the televised finals.

Asbaty, the diminutive spokeswoman for the USBC, outdueled the powerful Zara Glover (England) for the coveted title in two straight games for her victory, 233-148; and 235-220. Asbaty is now the only person (male or female) to win this prestigious event twice.

Williams (also from England as is Glover), defeated Peter Ljung (Sweden) in a best two-out-of-three battle. Ljung won the first game 236-233 in a see-saw battle, but Williams came back to capture the last two games 235-224 and 269-240.

Each of the victors earned $10,000.00 (US) and beautiful trophies.

WORLD RANKING MASTERS

Beginning thursday May 3, live coverage of this prestigious event will begin at 2:00pm E.S.T.

You will be able to hear commentary, some play-by-play of the action, live updates of the standings (as they bowl), interviews with bowlers and much, much more.

Coverage will go on daily throughout the entire event on friday, saturday and sunday starting at 9:00am each of those days.

Enclosed is the PDF file for the settings of sanction technology for the Kegel/USBC World Ranking Masters 2007.

The long is 44-feet and the short is 34-feet. The short has more oil outside than in previous tournaments, and the over-all volume from 2 to 9, is 3.3:1, which is lower than in previous tournaments.

The front-to-back ratio will be less than 2.5.

The Long Oil pattern (although the ratio is presently higher than previously), the buff-out will flatten the back part of the pattern and hopefully make good shot- making as a premium.

As I always say: "If conditions don’t co-operate move right, move left, and/or change balls."

This prestigious WTBA international event will be hosted by Kegel from May 3-8, 2007.

Be sure to tune-in as The Phantom will be reporting live audio of the entire event.

You can look forward to 40-hours of internet broadcasting. Check back here for further details as they become available.

The field is set for the World Ranking Masters with the Top 8 Men and the Top 8 Women from each of the 3 Zones; American, Asian and European.

Those 48 players have earned their way to this tournament based on their performances throughout the year. They have been announced (see below).

*The Host Country (America) is allowed to have two (2) player exemptions, and they are: Bill Hoffman and Diandra Asbaty. Both have been named amateur Bowlers of the Year (2006) by the Bowling Writers Association of America.

Remembering “Eddie”.

Edward “Eddie” Elias, a gifted attorney who represented some of the biggest names in sports, entertainment and broadcasting, is best remembered as the founder of the Professional Bowlers Association. Eddie passed away in 1998 and is greatly missed by all who knew him.

The 6-foot, 2-inch native of Akron, Ohio attended the University of Akron, where he lettered in baseball and basketball and was president of the Student Council. He graduated in 1951 with a Bachelor of Arts degree. After turning down several offers from professional baseball teams, he continued his education at Western Reserve Law School, where he graduated in 1955. He was admitted to the Ohio Bar Association in 1956.

Eddie worked his way through law school as a producer for local radio and television stations. While interviewing 2 guests, Eddie learned that there was no professional bowling organization. At the age of 28, he undertook the creation of the PBA, by contacting and convincing 33 of the nation’s top bowlers to contribute $1500.00 each to help fund this new organization. The PBA held its first 3-tournaments in 1959 with total prize money of $49,000.00.

Just two years after its first season, the PBA had tournaments in 11 cities, offered more than $300,000.00 in prize money and even instituted a modest pension plan for members. Today, the organization he founded has more than 4,000 members and a prize fund of more than $5-million.

By the time that he retired in the 1990’s, his marketing firm represented not only bowling greats like Don Carter, Dick Weber and Carmen Salvino, but also other celebrities and sports legends including: Marlo Thomas, Chi Chi Rodriguez, Phil Donahue, Fuzzy Zoeller and Chris Schenkel.

In 1968, Eddie married Miss Ohio pageant winner and top model, Peggy Emerson. They had two daughters, Annie Marlo and Rainy Margaret. A devoted family man and civic leader, Eddie supported many non-profit organizations, most notable St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Tennessee, The University of Akron and The United Way.

Eddie is listed in several Halls of Fame and received a host of awards and honors, both for his professional skills and philanthropic work. Today, a memorial is being created in his honor at The University of Akron. Many settings would have been appropriate to commemorate his life,

but his family chose to establish a memorial at his alma mater in his hometown of Akron to ensure that his legacy of entrepreneurship and success will be passed on to new generations of young adults.

An 80 x 44-inch display will be hung in the bowling center at The University of Akron’s new Student Union. The display has 5-panels constructed of satin aluminum, zinc and steel, and designed to symbolize bowling lanes. One panel will feature a plaque bearing an image of him and a brief description of his life and contributions. The other panels will be for nameplates of those wishing to contribute. PEGGY SENDS HER: "THANKS".

Peggy Elias (the widow of PBA Founder, Eddie Elias) was recently a Guest on Phantom Radio and she sent a nice note to The Foundation that we wanted to share with you.

(She wrote): "Thank you so much for having me on your Show. It was a real thrill for me, and the topics that we talked about brought back so many fond memories. I have been a huge bowling fan for so many years and was honored (and flattered) that you invited me. I listen to your Show faithfully and enjoy hearing from all of your Guests."

"And Phantom, you were right when you said, that: "It's the fastest show in all of sports." I can't believe how quickly the time went. There was so much more that I would have loved to talk about. But, as you said, maybe we can do it again someday - I certainly hope so."

"Eddie would have been so proud of you with what you are doing to help the Sport prosper."
