On last week's PBA telecast, Norm Duke talked about: "Preparing the lanes for yourself."

Brad Angelo was the lone righty on the Show and was lost.  Randy Pedersen asked Norm about what Brad should do.  Norm said, "If it was me, I would have thrown a low friction ball down the middle of the lane in practice to create some hold.  Then I would have thrown a ball with a lot of surface on the outsides to burn out a dry area."

I have all the respect in the world for Norm as a person AND as a bowler, but how do you feel about those statements that he made?

Your comments please.

I agree he should have tried to set something up for himself. My thinking is that he did try to but for some reason it just didn't work this time. These Pro bowlers arn't stupid they know their game they are world class. Right handers are used to transitions and breakdowns so this had to be way different for Brad. But had the shot fit him he would have smoked the field. So if he didn't try to help himself with breaking down the shot for himself it will be a learning experiance for everyone else this might happen to. I would try to do anything within the rules to win this is the road to success. It was a valid point brought up by Norm and you could tell that he felt he would have tried it himself had he been there. BOB

Bob:

I am sure that Norm would have tried to help himself had he been in that position.  He has done it in the past.  After all, it is in the rules.

Do you (or anyone) think that doing "this" SHOULD be in the rules?

Thanks.

Hi,

maybe you should ask Brian Voss whether it should be in the rules or not!!!

My personal feeling is that it shouldn't be allowed, but hey, if it is in the rules, any advantage you can get legally is fair enough.

I don't like this practice.  What's the purpose of putting out a pattern if you can just change it with your balls?

I would make an exception and allow patterns to be intentionally changed as part of an exhibition type tournament using visible/colored oil.  This would add an element of interactivity and offense/defense to bowling which might be fun and stimulate viewer interest.  BUT, extreme care should be taken to ensure that this would be as FAIR as possible.  Thus, I would limit use of this to heads-up contest using Bracket Style matchplay (i.e., then the adjustment required for each should be similar).

IMO, the types of transitions that occur today can create unfair conditions (left to right and  especially over long blocks and/or round robin matchpaly) and that's not good . . . BUT . . . IF . . . the oil were visible and heads up bracket style match play were use (don't change lanes) then you might have a great test, put one pattern on one lane and one pattern on the other lane.

My personal feeling lets take off all the oil on the lanes and go back to the plastic balls. This way everyone is throwing the same ball and we can see who is the better bowler for the week. These balls are getting out of hand. It seems like now all I do is purchase another ball for another season of league. I remember 15 to 20 years ago I could use the same damn ball for 2 to 3 years with out having to throw out more money. In my opinion it SUCKS. If all the pro shops got together and only sold only plastic then the Bowling Centers would have to reduce the oil on the lanes to get the same reaction as these expensive balls do, and everyone would be happy. Then maybe we can get into the Olympics. Because I know we are much better athelets then those damn sync swimmers LoL. How did that ever become a sport did two kids fall in the pool at the same time and someone said hey that looks cool lets make that a sport.

But that will never happen to many people like throwing there high games and not learn the game only a few people in my center can really actually bowl I don't think someone bowling a year should be able to shoot a 300.

Just my opinion

Wired – try Sennheiser eh150 (I think 150 is the number…). They’re about $35 and sound like they cost $200. iPad 2 Transfer Mac Why does this matter to iPhone and iPad users? Because if Google (and Palm and RIM) hadn't chosen to compete against Apple by cozying up to Adobe's Flash the amount of battery draining, phone heating web video content would be lessened today and the H.264 share would be even higher. In other words, we'd have even more iOS-friendly videos and less sites we couldn't access on our iOS devices.Poor thing.
